How the gaming room is kept a pastime

Playing within limits

A guest who plays for an hour and goes down to bed is a better guest than one who stays until the lights come up.

The loft is run on that idea. Below is what it means in practice, what the staff will do if you ask, and what to watch for in yourself.

Why the room is small

Five tables, not fifteen. The loft closes at one in the morning, even on a Saturday in August with people still sitting down. No credit is given, and there is no cash machine in the building, so nobody plays with money they had not already decided to bring. The bar under the roof stops serving half an hour before the tables do.

Age, and a document every time

Entry is from 18, under the Code de la sécurité intérieure, articles L320-7 and L320-8. The document is checked at the loft door at every visit, including for people the staff know by name.

What the loft staff can do that evening

None of this can be done from the website, and that is deliberate. It is a conversation with a person who can see your face and remember it at the door tomorrow.

Five signs worth noticing in yourself

Any one of these on its own is ordinary. Two together on the same trip are a reason to talk to the desk.

How the staff learn it

Everybody who works the loft door, the tables or the bar upstairs spends a day on this before their first evening and half a day again each spring. The desk staff do the same, because stopping is arranged at the desk and they are the people you will talk to.

To ask for any of it, say so to whoever is at the counter, at any hour. You do not need to explain why.

Play happens in a single room of this house, the loft over the old shop, and in no other place. The Printed Room takes no bets online, opens no player accounts and handles no payments through this website.
